Former Kyuss bass guitarist Nick Oliveri released an album called “N.O. Hits at All – Vol. 1” on which he published cover versions of songs that mean something to him. What the title of this EP already indicates is the fact that none of the track ever reached a wider audience which is per se not a bad thing. Each of these tracks is a small little highlight in itself and stands for an approach that finds a continuation on the next EP. The second thing that was obvious was a continuation of what was started with this release.
“Vol. 2” of this journey comes again with 6 songs and a 20 minutes running time. Oliveri did these songs in the same fashion as he did it on the predecessor. Raw punk rock is the general sound on this musical adrenaline shot. Regardless if it’s Turbonegro’s “Back to Dungaree High”, the furious opener We Only Came to Get High”, originally by The Dwarves, or the acoustic “John Lawman / Green Machine””, this album acts as a well-done wake-up call.
“N.O. Hits at All Vol. 2” is a nice record, charged with energetic music, some irony and a spot-on approach. For not being a ‘hit’ each of the six tunes still has the potential for being an underground anthem, best performed live in a smaller club venue.
